I started as Partnership Director in October 2005 after many years working in Local Government including 6 years as Deputy Director in London Borough of Newham and 7 years as Director of Leisure Services in the London Borough of Enfield. Whilst these jobs meant I was more involved with elected members, libraries, parks and strategic council wide initiatives, sport always featured a great deal in my life.
I ‘ran’ a running club in East London for many years and I used to play badminton and squash whenever I could. Unfortunately after dislocating my right shoulder too many times on skiing holidays racket sports are now a little problematic but I am not giving up quite yet!
With 3 children, aged 12, 11 and 9 years, who participate in at least 9 different sporting activities/clubs every week, I am now even more aware how important it is to support the local sporting infrastructure, local sports clubs and volunteers.
It is a real privilege being the Director of the Herts Sports Partnership and managing such a motivated and capable team. Our major aim is to increase participation and I work closely with the Chair and other members of our executive board (all very committed volunteers representing the wide ranging sports and physical activity sector in the county) to decide where to focus the work of the partnership to achieve this and other objectives. Sport England East provides us with the majority of our core funding, for which we are very grateful but it does mean we have to keep them on our side which isn’t always easy!
