The 2011 Herts Sport Awards

The Weston Auditorium at the University of Hertfordshire was packed to bursting on Monday 12th September when the 122 nominated volunteers and their guests attended the prestigious Hertfordshire Service to Sport Awards 2011.

The dynamic evening was superbly hosted by BBC commentator David Croft who welcomed the guests and applauded the efforts of all those who give up their time selflessly so that others can enjoy their chosen sport. He acknowledged the vital contribution they make to the spirit and health of their communities and that without this dedicated team more than 2,500 Hertfordshire based community sports clubs could not exist.

David Croft (Crofty) was joined by local dignitaries, sponsor representatives and a number of special guests that included players and coaches from the Saracens RFC, Arsenal Ladies FC, Stevenage FC and Mavericks Netball Club. They were proud to celebrate their recent successes, showing off the impressive haul of silver-wear won this year. An inspirational interview with Nicolas Hamilton, Renault Clio Cup racing driver gave an inspiring insight into the world of motor racing and overcoming the potential limitations of Cerebal Palsy.

The real stars of the evening were the forty or so successful award winners. Nominations were received from all ten Hertfordshire local authority areas and from over twenty different sports that included boxing and basketball; sailing and swimming; rugby and running.
This years awards took place on the 12th September at the University of Hertfordshire's Weston Auditorium and we were delighted to welcome back BBC Radio Five Live presenter, David Croft, who did an outstanding job hosting the evening.
