becoming a coach
Do you have aspirations of becoming a sports coach?
Good players need talent but they also need good coaches. The most important quality you need to coach is enthusiasm. People respond brilliantly to an eager, hard working leader. Obviously, it can take a number of years to develop your coaching skills but whatever level you strive to achieve you will first need to acquire the right qualifications.
To become a qualified coach in a particular sport, you will need to take the appropriate coaching qualifications offered by the national governing body (NGB) of that sport.
If you want to find out further details for coaching qualifications in a particular sport you can:
- Contact the NGB of your chosen sport(s) and request the awards structure, dates and courses running in your area. These contact details can be found on our A-Z of sport.
- Contact Graham Keen on 01707 281006 or e-mail g.a.keen@herts.ac.uk to discuss what coaching qualifications are available and best suited to your needs and experience.
What next?
Once you have got your qualification the best thing you can do is get experience, whatever your level you will always gain more knowledge by getting out there and delivering as a coach. It develops you confidence and over time it will allow you to develop you own style and approach to meet the needs of all your participants
If you want to find what coaching or leadership opportunities are out there in Hertfordshire then why not visit our Job Shop, this is split into two sections and advertises both volunteer and paid opportunities in sport.
