executive board nominations

Herts Sports and Physical Activity Partnership (known as HSP) is an umbrella association supporting and representing organisations, clubs and people with an interest in sport and physical activity and the development of a sustainable sporting infrastructure. The Executive Board of HSP is elected for a term of two years and we are now seeking nominations for Members of the Executive Board to serve from June 2011 to June 2013.

HSP seeks to raise the profile of sport and physical activity in the county and to increase, and promote the substantial benefits of, participation. Our extensive knowledge and experience in the sector, teamed with the fact that we work in partnership with a wide range of statutory and voluntary organisations and partners, puts us in a unique position to provide guidance and advice on most matters related to sports and physical activity and to represent the sector appropriately.

The strategic leadership of HSP is provided by the Executive Board, which is elected for a period of two years. HSP is hosted by the University of Hertfordshire (UH), an arrangement that was agreed between HSP, UH and the Local Authorities in the county and formalised in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). As part of the MOU, the University acts as the legal entity for HSP and the grant awards from Sport England and other bodies. HSP is, therefore, an unincorporated company and the Executive Board have no legal responsibilities and formally acts as an advisory board; however, the MOU details that the responsibilities of the Executive Board include the strategic leadership of the Partnership, including the approval of the Annual Delivery Plan etc.

The Executive Board consists of a total of up to thirty Members. Nine of these positions are determined by umbrella organisations, as detailed in the attached constitution. The remaining twenty-one positions will be selected using an open election process and we are currently inviting nominations from the wider membership from the following sectors/categories(in accordance with the constitution):

• One representative from Local Community Sports Networks or equivalent organisations • Two representatives from Governing Bodies of Sport • One representative from Sport Clubs • Twelve additional representatives from Category B membership (see constitution) • Five additional representatives from Category C membership (see constitution)

It is worth noting that the Executive Board has, at recent meetings, agreed that the current constitution is, overall, fit for purpose but that minor adjustments will be put to the Annual General Meeting (AGM) for approval in June 2011. If you have any amendments to the constitution you wish to suggest, we will be happy to receive them.

In order to have a robust and effective Executive Board there are a number of expectations of an HSP Executive Board Member; these are detailed in the attached document (Appendix 1). Executive Board Members will be expected to use their skills and experience to support the work of HSP.

Attached are two nomination forms (self nomination and nomination with consent). If you feel you or your nominee meets the expectations and is able to contribute to the development of sport and physical activity within Hertfordshire then we encourage you to complete the attached nomination forms. Please ensure you detail the strengths that you or your nominee could bring to the Partnership. Please also ensure you also provide us with your own contact details when nominating another individual. If you are interested in you or your nominee being considered for the Chair, Vice Chair or Treasurer positions, then please indicate this on your form.

Forms must be received by Jack Scott at the above address, no later than 12pm on Monday, 4 April 2011. The Executive Board will formally be agreed at the AGM on Tuesday, 14 June 2011.

The Management Sub-Board will consider the nominations and put forward proposals to the AGM.
