The DCMS aims to improve the quality of life for all through cultural and sporting activities, to support the pursuit of excellence and to champion the tourism, creative and leisure industries.
The DCMS is responsible for Government policy on sport and is the Department responsible for the 2012 Olympic Games & Paralympic Games. The DCMS provides significant funding for sports provision, improving the quantity and quality of sporting opportunities at every level, from the playground to the podium. Their aim is to encourage wider participation in sport, helping to create a more active nation and improve performance. Their vision is that the UK be re-established as a powerhouse in the sporting world.
The DCMS funds Sport England to promote and invest in community and grassroots sport.
