Funded by Sport England, Sporting Equals is a national initiative working to promote racial equality in sport throughout England. Ethnic minorities are poorly represented at decision making levels in most sports. They find themselves excluded from various sports facilities, and overlooked by sports development officers and coaches. Sporting Equals works with the governing bodies of various sports and with key national umbrella organisations to develop policies and working practices that promote racial equality.
Commitment to racial equality in sport has clear social, economic and commercial benefits. It will encourage more people from all ethnic backgrounds to take part in sport, and it will lead to fairer, more diverse representation at all levels in coaching and in the administration and management of sports.
