Sport Makers is part of Sport England’s Mass Participation Legacy programme, Places People Play
Sport Makers uses the inspiration of London 2012 to recruit, train and deploy new sports volunteers aged over 16 years to make sport happen for their friends, neighbours or colleagues as well as for local sports events and clubs. Those interested in the programme will have a positive and inspiring introduction to the world of Sport Makers via a series of workshops and conventions delivered locally by the Herts Sports Partnership.
These Sport Makers will organise and support hundreds of thousands of new hours of grassroots sport, creating new participation opportunities across the country. Sport Makers will bring the Olympic and Paralympic values to life in every community and will be a highly visible part of the London 2012 legacy. Nationally the aim is that 50,000 people attend inspirational workshops, with at least 40,000 of these being deployed as Sports Makers (over 800 in Herts) for a minimum of 10 hours.
The Herts Sports Partnership is working with a range of partners to identify potential Sport Makers and Sport Maker opportunities including:
- National Governing Bodies of sports and their clubs in Hertfordshire
- Community Sport Networks
- Hertfordshire Volunteer Centres
- Further Education Colleges and University of Hertfordshire
- School Leadership Academies (16+ Step into Sport students)
- Local Authority Sport Development Officers
- Public and Private sector employeers and their employees
Sport Maker workshops and conventions
The Herts Sports Partnership is running a programme of FREE workshops and conventions (Visit the Workshop and Courses section of this website) across the county at which people can hear about the benefits of Sport Makers. All those who attend a workshop receive a FREE Adidas polo shirt and bag as well as information on Sport Maker opportunities in their local area. Once a Sport Maker completes 10 hours they will have a chance to win Olympic and Paralympic Games tickets.
