Referees are an extremely important element in the development of Volleyball, Beach Volleyball and Disabled Volleyball throughout the country, at all levels of ability and at all ages.
Grade 4 Referees Award
This grade is awarded to candidates who attend a two day course and successfully complete a theory examination on the rules of volleyball and use of the scoresheet. The course comprises both theory and practical sessions but assessment of practical refereeing is not compulsory. The minimum age for this course is 16 years of age. Grade 4 Referees should attempt to obtain as much experience at local level as possible, before applying to be assessed for Grade 3. (Grade 3 is the recommended minimum standard for officiating in regional or local leagues.)

Herts Sports Partnership is funding a number of coaching and officiating courses through the European Social Fund’s East-Links: Leading the Field (ELF) programme.
You may be eligible for 100% funding for this course if you meet ALL of the following criteria:
• Aged 16 or over
• In paid employment (minimum 8 hours/week)
• Working or living in East of England Region (Beds, Cambs, Essex, Herts, Norfolk, Suffolk)
• Not a full time student e.g. not on a NVQ, BTec, A level or Degree course
• An EU citizen or have indefinite leave to remain in UK/right to work in the EU
• Not already funded for any other qualification through the ELF programme
• If employed in the public sector (schools, local government etc), be an active volunteer in a local sports club
